Our Programs

Oasis will operates 16 after-school programs in Brooklyn (4), Manhattan (10), and Queens (1), and the Bronx (1) for close to 1,600 students, ages 5 – 14. Children enrolled in our programs are engaged in healthy learning activities from the time they are dismissed from school until 6:00. Our programs include homework help, sports and recreational programming, visual and performing arts, and literacy enrichment.

Oasis programs are funded with a combination of government grants, fees from parents, and philanthropic contributions. Our publicly and philanthropically funded programs operate in underserved communities and are free for families. Most of the children in these programs need a great deal of academic support and have very few after school options. Without Oasis, many of theses children would go home to unsupervised apartments and watch hours of TV or hang out on unsafe streets where they are prone to being enticed into dangerous behaviors. Our fee-based programs offer high quality after school experiences that are affordable to working families. Consistent with our community-oriented philosophy, all our fee-based programs have financial aid opportunities available to students based on need.

One of the most special aspects of our programs is our staff and staffing pattern. Oasis is made up of a network of experienced educators and recreational specialists. Each site has a director, instructors, and group leaders. Group leaders act as positive role models for students helping them stay engaged in activities, de-escalating conflicts that arise, and helping them complete assignments. Professional development is a critical component of all of our programs.

Group Leader credentials include at least one prior childcare experience, a High School diploma (at minimum), and excellent references. Instructor credentials include at least one year of teaching experience, some college, excellent references, and a strong background in their content area. Program Director credentials include all requirements for an instructor plus a college degree and supervisory and/or program development experience.
