Group Leader

The Mission: The mission of Oasis Community Corporation is to support children in their social, emotional, and academic development by providing them with enriching, community-based after-school programs. Our goal is to help children become more confident, more responsible and more involved in the world around them.

Program Description: Oasis after-school programs provide young people with nutritious snack, homework help, creative learning activities, and recreational and educational games. Oasis emphasizes low ratios of adults to children, creative staffing and programming, and a staff training strategy that enables our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the students in their care.

Primary Function: The primary function of the Group Leader is to work with staff and students to enforce a positive community culture at Oasis’ programs and to ensure that Oasis’ goals for children are being realized. Group leaders are expected to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with and be positive role models for the children they supervise.

Organizational Role
Minimum Hours: School days, 2:45 – 6:00, Sept - June
Reports to: Program Director Peer relationship: Other Program Directors
Supervises: Students

Job Responsibilities
· Supervise homework help time and provide homework help to students
· Supervise transition times to maintain order
· Receive and review the Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual
· Supervise snack to ensure each child has snack, to maintain order and to keep snack area neat and clean
· Assist instructors in daily activities
· Lead recreational activities
· Plan and lead Group Time activities
· Interact with staff and students at all times
· Assist in the planning and organizing of community service and student leadership opportunities for students as appropriate
· Assist in planning and organizing functions such as performances, competitions, field days, etc.
· Perform other related duties as requested or assigned by Program Director
· Encourage a positive environment that fosters mutual support, community service, good humor, and the desire to learn and grow
· Attend all mandatory staff meetings and professional development sessions, which might include weekend sessions.

Qualifications: High School Diploma and at least one positive experience working in youth programs. High School seniors will also be considered with excellent references from a school faculty member. Outstanding interpersonal skills, references, and rapport with children are required. Qualified candidates have a strong commitment to children and especially children at risk of academic failure. Must be willing to learn and implement new strategies to motivate and encourage students to be positive, thoughtful and willing to work hard and take risks. The ability to work as part of a team, initiate and follow-thorough with minimal supervision, handle pressure situations, adapt to changing priorities, and balance competing deadlines a must. Some college is a plus.
