Assistant Program Director

The Mission: The mission of Oasis Community Corporation is to support children in their social, emotional, and academic development by providing them with enriching, community-based after-school programs. Our goal is to help children become more confident, more responsible and more involved in the world around them.

Program Description: Oasis after-school programs provide young people with nutritious snack, homework help, creative learning activities, and recreational and educational games. Oasis emphasizes low ratios of adults to children, creative staffing and programming, and a staff training strategy that enables our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the students in their care.

Primary Function: The primary function of the Assistant Program Director is to assists the Program Director with administrative tasks and in developing a positive program environment. The Assistant Program Director mentors Group Leaders and helps them develop meaningful relationships with the students in their group. Assistant Program Directors also instruct in their content area for one or two activity periods per day.

Organizational Role
Minimum Hours: Generally M – F 2:45 pm – 6:00 pm, Sept - June
Reports to: Program Director
Peer relationship: Other Assistant Program Directors
Mentors: Group Leaders and Sr. Group Leaders
Supervises: Students

Job Responsibilities
· Mentor Group Leaders
· Assist in administrative tasks such as report staff hours to payroll secretary, keeping attendance and ordering and maintaining materials
· Assume a leadership role in the program when the director is off site
· Instruct one or two activity periods daily
· Run staff meetings with Group Leaders
· Drive and support the curriculum development process for Group Time and during recreation and games
· Liaison with parents
· Ensure that schedule is followed
· Initiate and organize functions such as performances, exhibitions, field days, etc.
· Initiate and organize community service and leadership opportunities for students as appropriate
· Coordinate special events and activities
· Attend and/or lead professional development activities.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have at least four years experience in an academic/recreation setting with children and at least two years supervisory experience. Outstanding interpersonal skills, organizational skills and rapport with children is required. Qualified candidates have a strong commitment to children and especially children at risk of academic failure. Must be willing to learn and implement new strategies to inspire students to be positive, thoughtful and motivated to work hard and take risks. The ability to inspire positive teamwork, initiate and follow-thorough with minimal supervision as well as work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and balance competing deadlines a must. Excellent references are a must. A college degree in a related field a huge plus.
